But I didn't realize how much I would miss the simple things about Texas, like the food. Yeah, yeah, tex-mex is good, but I'm so burnt out on it.
So what will today's post revolve around? Well, as my friend from back home, Israel, put it, "Do them yankees up there have a Whataburger or nah?"
FOOD.
1. Fastfood.
There are a few places I miss more than ever. I already talked about it. Whataburger. Just, unf
Just look at that perfection. Burgers, shakes, fries. Patty-melts. HONEY BUTTER CHICKEN BISCUIT.
Whataburger has not only served as a place to stuff your face full of beige-golden delightfulness, but has become a beacon of hope. A place to satiate your hunger after a long night with friends. BECAUSE IT'S OPEN 24 HOURS.
One time, I was staying with some friends at a cabin, and at 3 in the morning they woke me up just so I would drive them to get Whataburger because "they were kinda hungry and they couldn't decide on anything else."
Whataburger is the first thing I make my mother drive to after she picks me up at the airport. Their chicken tenders make my mouth water.
And you always know a story is going to turn out great if it starts with, "So this one time at Whataburger." What's that story about? I don't know, but I can't wait to see how it unfolds and how it incorporates a tasty fast-food restaurant.
2. Sit-Down Restaurants
Breadwinners. OHOP. Pluckers. What do these places all have in common? THEY SERVE BRUNCH!!! I'm just kidding, Plucker's doesn't serve brunch. Which is what makes it not as cool as the rest of these places.
I'm just kidding. Say it with me, We love Pluckers, even if I did eat there every weekend of May last year. They have phenomenal wings and on Tuesdays, they have bingo. Don't get me started on their fried Oreos. Why order an entire dinner when you could just eat fried oreos. Don't forget to wash it down with a Shirley Temple. They also have queso that kind of makes you want to get up and walk out of the resturaunt. So, pretty good.
OHOP- original house of pancakes. Sort of like IHOP but, somehow more...entitled? That one letter changes everything. "You guys wanna go to IHOP??" "Hah, no." "Oh I'm sorry I meant OHOP, whoops." "YASS LET'S GO." *rolls eyes* No but OHOP is pretty good, and there was no better start to a Monday morning than meeting there with a few friends to rehash the weekend over blue-berry pancakes and fresh fruit. Also, what a great Instagram picture (courtesy of my friend).
Breadwinners. Located in the heart of Northpark, a huge mall that everyone in Dallas is in love with. Breadwinners is another great brunch place, but unlike OHOP, they have other items on the menu of non-breakfast type. Like soups and...sandwiches? I honestly don't know. I've only ordered off the brunch menu because, why would you not? And the lights are so dim, it makes you feel like you could be engaging in business talks worthy of a Madmen scene.
3. Dessert
If it's 11 o'clock at night and you still have an hour before curfew, you might want to stop by Sprinkles. Okay so Sprinkles used to be this cupcake place, and it still is, but they expanded, and it is also now a ice cream shop.
That stays open till midnight. Screw that long line winding and zigzagging out into the parking lot, hit up that ice cream. It's just the tops of cupcakes (you know, THE GOOD PART) on top of a scoop of ice cream. And yeah, that sounds like a one-way ticket to Diabetes-ville, but whatever. It's good.
And I kind of like the fact that they don't try and dress it down as healthy in any way. YOU ARE BUYING A REALLY GOOD, HIGH-CALORIE TREAT. Stop trippin', just enjoy it.
4. Conclusion.
So I miss food a lot. And there are so many other places I have left out. So many honorable mentions. But I guess college has made me so appreciative of food. It's not that this food is bad, but I just miss my food. And yeah, a lot of it has to do with memories at these specific places.
I still miss that sweet, sweet Whataburger though.
